EPREFIX would be appropriate for values used at runtime.
db_findver and db_libname check for the presence of files or directories
at build time.
db_includedir returns a header directory, which would almost certainly
only be used at build time.

Add support for EAPI 8 and drop support for EAPIs < 5. Also explicitly
die on unknown EAPI values. Note that this is a deviation from the
currenty approach that the eclass uses since 86416d2c4bf1 ("eclass:
db-use - Update to eapi7-ver"). But I argue that it is confusing that
your static ananlysis tools (pkgcheck, repoman) complain about an
unsupported EAPI in an eclass, while the ebuild works just fine. While I
also think it is likely that this eclass will support future EAPI
versions without any modifications, my conclusion is that this is actually
an argument to die on unknown EAPIs, since it is trivial to bump, while
on the other hand, you never know if it really works.

Revert multiple meaningless eclass documentation changes, notably adding
a lot of placeholders and documenting implementation details. These
changes were aimed at silencing (valid) documentation warnings without
actually providing valuable documentation to the end users. While some
of these changes were beneficial, it would take a lot of effort to
review them all and the author is unwilling to fix his mistakes.

* Multiple tags and comments added
* Some functions could use better @USAGE
* CVS shows pauldv@gentoo.org as the original committer to the tree. As
such, he is now listed as the author of the eclass [1]
* Assign to maintainer-needed as the eclass is still in use by several
packages

This is a very simple eclass which only calls these functions from eclasses:
ver_cut (EAPI 0-6)
get_libdir (EAPI 0-5)
get_libname (ALL EAPI)
I see no little reason to place die statements for unknown EAPIs.
Just changing the eclasses to better suit the latest EAPI should be OK.

This commit represents a new era for Gentoo:
Storing the gentoo-x86 tree in Git, as converted from CVS.
This commit is the start of the NEW history.
Any historical data is intended to be grafted onto this point.
Creation process:
1. Take final CVS checkout snapshot
2. Remove ALL ChangeLog* files
3. Transform all Manifests to thin
4. Remove empty Manifests
5. Convert all stale $Header$/$Id$ CVS keywords to non-expanded Git $Id$
5.1. Do not touch files with -kb/-ko keyword flags.
